I think it is time for every one to know things about this artist.

So, who is Jemmiro?

ABOUT THE ARTIST JEMMIRO

Born Belmiro Antonio Jemusse, in Dondo (a town 10min driving from Beira), Sofala province – Mozambique, on 16th March 1976.

In 2003 made the decision to become a full time artist, and moved to South Africa in order to diversify his art making.

2004 attended a basic course in drawing and painting in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga; Participated in a group exhibition: Innibos art festival, which draws participating artists from throughout South Africa.

2005 participates in a group exhibition “The Mall Wall”, in Nelspruit, an important event which gathered selected artists living and working in Mpumalanga.

2006 – 2008 enrolled as full-time student at Artist Proof Studio, Johannesburg, for a printmaking course, in which all aspects of printimaking were addressed; etching, mono-prints, paper litho, silkscreen, linocut, dry point, etc.

During the above period, in 2007 held first solo exhibition entitled “Portraying Africa back to the future” at Spaza Art Gallery in Troyville, Johannesburg.

Jemmiro participated in many other group exhibitions, in South Africa and Mozambique.

In 2009 moved to Humansdorp; coastal town 18km from legendary “Endless summer” movie shot in St Francis Bay and Jeffrey’s Bay, in the Eastern Cape.

Meets fellew artist, art teacher and mentor, Alecia Chaput, in St Francis Bay: “I have such confidence in Jemmiro, both as an artist, and a beautiful human being; bust with compassion; an aspect which I believe is reflected in his work; so refreshing! I have been blessed to have had the privilege to have been associated with Jemmiro; he has been such an inspiration to me and my students; His talent and humility is so humbling.”

Had images of his works featured in the 1st “What’s Happening in the World of Art Today” (WHWAT), held by Free Flight for the Arts, in Colorado, USA.

In September held his second solo exhibition entitled “Fragments”, at Artist Proof Studio in Johannesburg.

2010 goes back to Mozambique, where was pointed to be part of the board directors at “Nucleo de Arte” (Senior artist association in Maputo, operating since 1921), and also become part of a group of 7 artists who opened Veleiro Arts, a new gallery and atelier in Maputo where his works can be viewed.

Many of his art works have been sold to collectors in South Africa, Mozambique and abroad.
